1. Social Security System Survey and Project Study (1999)

CRC was commissioned by the Social Security Service Office to do a nationwide survey of its pensioners and current members who are to retire within the next fifteen years. The objective of the said survey is for SSS to have a better understanding of their socio-economic characteristics and quality of life as well as their preparations for retirement and perceptions on income and pension adequacy to serve as basis for formulation of recommendations on improving the services it is providing.

2. Department of Agriculture "Global Competitiveness Strategies for Philippine Agribusiness: Strategic and Integrated Transportation Action Program" (1999)

This study was made for the Department of Agriculture in the area of transporting selected agricultural commodities from production areas to market as well as the problems and issues in transporting said commodities. The output of the study will serve as a guide for policy reform, public and private investments, institutional strengthening/re-orientation and other possible activities in the transportation sector. It was also expected to enhance the linkages and complementarities between transportation programs on one hand and agribusiness ventures on the other.

3. The New Energy and International Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Survey (2001)

The NEDO Survey focused on energy conservation and efficiency in the Philippines. The purpose of the said survey was to collect and analyze relevant information on Government policy concerning the aforementioned issue. Topics which were covered include overall energy conservation and efficiency policy as well as for energy intensive industry; laws and regulations, tax incentives and financial scheme for disseminating energy conservation and efficiency technology; and customs duty and other tax or legal framework that may cause obstacles for smooth implementation of international cooperative model projects.

4. The WTO/AFTA Advisory Commission-CRC study: "Identification of Strategiesfor Promoting the Interest of the Philippines in the ASEAN-Mekong Basin Development Cooperation"

In cooperation with the WTO/AFTA Advisory Commission, CRC undertook a research study that identified where the Philippines can participate in the development of the Mekong Basin taking into consideration its interest and capabilities as well as the estimated benefits of its participation, which shall serve as the basis for determining the resources it would contribute. The study considered the issues such as the macroeconomic and political environment for economic development and business expansion in the Mekong Basin, the status of infrastructure development of Mekong Basin government, the profile of Mekong Basin countries' trade and implication for Philippine exports to and imports from these countries, and other relevant issues.

5. Competitiveness and the Evolving Structure of the Philippine Cement Industry (Philippine Cement Manufacturing Corp.) 2000

The study will generate the data and information necessary for the formulation of an industry strategic plan, which, will be more attuned to the demands of global competition. The findings will serve as basis for public policy makers to see the present policy environment of the industry and to study, recommend and implement concrete policies that will make it more conducive for the cement industry to compete.

6. The Cigarette Manufacturing Industry and Philip Morris Philippines' Impact on
the Philippine Economy (Philip Morris Philippines, Inc.) 2000

This paper examines both the beneficial and detrimental effects of the cigarette industry and looks into Philip Morris's expansion plan in the Philippines. The issues addressed in the study are: 1) the cigarette industry's contribution to the economy in general and to other industries in particular; 2) the current structure of the cigarette manufacturing industry; 3)the social cost brought about by the cigarette industry and the present and future regulatory programs direct.ly affecting the business.

7. Philippine Canned Tuna Exports to the European Union: Economic Analysis
and Industry Input (2001)

The paper quantified the opportunity losses of Philippine canned tuna export to EU because of the 24% Most Favored Nation duty compared to zero duty for exports from African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) countries.

8. Economic Analysis of Injury to Philippine canned tuna exports to the USA under the ANDEAN Trade Preferences Act (2001)

The paper quantified the opportunity losses of the Philippine canned tuna export to the USA once the preferential treatment for ANDEAN countries under the proposed APTA will be approved.

9. Survey of Lighting Manufacturers in the Philippines

CRC was commissioned by the Applied Energy Group (AEG) the global Monitoring and Evaluation arm of the Efficient Lighting Initiative (ELI) Project of the WorldBank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), to conduct a survey of the lighting industry in the Philippines. The objective of this survey is to measure the impact of the program on the lighting market in the Philippines by establishing baseline sales levels, stocking practices and awareness of lighting equipment and efficiency. The survey will include the collection of aggregate sales data on the lighting market in general, to establish the size and price levels of the market for lighting equipment.

10. Food and Agriculture Organization Project: "Diversified Farm Income and Market Development Project (DFIMDP)"

The Diversified Farm Income and Market Development Project (DFIMDP) is the first project that will support the goals of the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA). The project is cost-shared by Department of Agriculture, the World Bank, the local government units as well as industry stakeholders. In order to fast-track project preparation, the Food and Agriculture Organization funded a technical assistance grant to finance a preparation team for Bukidnon, the pilot area.

One of the components of the project is a study entitled "Baseline Surveys, Benchmarking and M&E for Bukidnon." The study sought to: (a) conduct baseline surveys of farmers for selected commodities in selected locations; (b) determine the typical and benchmark farms; (c) conduct extra-provincial benchmarking; (d) do supply/value chain analysis; (e) conduct cluster analysis for swine, rubber and peanuts; (f) collect list of specific project proposals for each selected locations for further validation by relevant experts; and (g) review the existing M&E system; (h) draft an M&E manual; and (i) draft terms of reference for staff training.

The commodities covered include: (a) Feeds-livestock cluster (corn, cassava and swine); (b) vegetables group (cauliflower, brocolli, cabbage, lettuce, and carrots); (c) Potato; (d) Cutflowers (roses and mums); and (e) mango and rubber.

11. Study on the Philippine Information Communication and Technology-Enabled Sector: Trends, Prospects and Impact on the Economy

CRC was awarded a research grant by MasterCard International to conduct a study on the ICT-enabled industry in the Philippines. Among the objectives of the said study is to 1) give an overview of the structure of the ICT-enabled industry and its present and potential short to medium-term contribution to the Philippine economy; 2) give a 3-5 year assessment of the growth potentials of the industries under various economic, political and policy scenarios and their overall impact on employment and income generation; 3) determine the forward and backward linkages of the ICT-enabled sector and asses its potential impact on overall economic activity; and, 4) to identify and analyze factors that will aid and impede the growth of the ICT-enabled industry.

12. Impact Analysis of the Proposed Excise Taxes on Motor Vehicles: Case of AUVs

The study presents a case analysis on the impact of the implementation of excise tax on motor vehicles, in particular the AUVs. The study examines the effects of the passage of a value-based excise tax on the economy, paying close attention to affordability issue and price sensitivity issue.

13. Micronutrient Operational Strategies and Technologies (MOST) Project

This study seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of the takal system in sugar and coconut cooking oil. The scope of work has three parts: (1) market overview of sugar and cooking oil; (2) structure of the supply chain for sugar and cooking oil; and (3) the takal system in the marketing chain for both commodities.

14. A Study on the Philippine Leather Goods Industry

CRC Foundation undertook the said study with the support of JETRO Manila. This industry study examines the following aspects of the leather and leather goods industry of the Philippines: history and characteristic features, current status, prospects of the leather goods industry, government policies affecting the industry and tariff and other trade policies affecting the industry. In addition, this study likewise makes an assessment on the following areas: (a) Japan-Philippine trade relations in the leather goods sector; and (b) the Philippine leather goods industry under the WTO and AFTA.

15. The Economic Impact of Alternative Taxation Policies on the Philippine Non-Life Insurance Industry

The non-life insurance association by the name of the Philippine General Insurers association (PGIA) has commissioned CRC Foundation, Inc. to undertake a comprehensive economic analysis of alternative taxation policies which is applied on their sector. The project entails mathematical and statistical inferences on the market for non-life insurance as well as the industry-wide effects. This is a continuation of the work previously done for the Philippine Life Insurance Association (PLIA). The same methodology applies.

16. Sustaining Competitive Advantage Through Benchmarking

The project, undertaken by CRC Foundation for the Northern Foods Corporation, aims to: (a) develop baseline data of the NFC supply chain; (b) define the scope for improvements of NFC supply/value chain from good/best practices; and, (c) implement action plans consistent with the NFC Strategic Action Plan. The scope of work involves using the "seed-to-shelf" supply chain framework (inbound logistics, farm operations, outbound logistics, plant operation, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and after sales service).

17. Secondary Research for Geographic Targeting

CRC Foundation undertook the said study for a multinational company based in Metro Manila. The study involved gathering and analyzing data on the Philippines' demographic, social and economic indicators for the client's inputs in assessing the marketability of areas for branch expansion. The study, with a nationwide scope, examined data according to the following four areas: demographics, sources of income, economic drivers, and consumer groups.

18. CRC-Tier FTA Project

This project is a joint undertaking with the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. It is a research and advocacy project aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the Philippines and Taiwan. An objective of the project is to determine the prospects of forging an economic cooperation between the Philippines and Taiwan, in terms of the smooth and free flow of goods, services and investments.

19. Projections for the Asian Industrializing Region (PAIR) for the Philippines

The Institute for Developing Economies (IDE)-Japan commissioned CRC to undertake a forecasting study on the Philippine economy which will be used by the IDE in the preparation of institutional forecasts in December 2004.

20. A Feasibility Study on Establishing a Forestry-Based Export Processing Zone in Dilasag, Casiguran and Dinalungan (DiCaDi) Municipalities of Aurora Province

This project was commissioned to CRC by the Industries Development Corporation (IDC). IDC plans to establish an industrial estate in DICADI municipalities of Aurora province to cater to downstream manufacturers-processors of forestry products. It is envisioned that these manufacturers will export a majority of their outputs. The proposed industrial estate will be linked to a port facility which will be used as transshipment point for forestry-based products. The feasibility study will assess the profitability and viability of the project and if this is evaluated as feasible, the study will be part of the requirement needed to have the estate declared and operated as an export-processing zone. CRC has contracted Environs Systems Group, Inc. to undertake the planning and design of the 25-ha. Ecozone of DiCaDi.

21. A Study on the Circumstances of the Salt Industry in the Philippines

Under a grant from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), CRC undertook this study, which aims to provide a clear and detailed information on the salt industry in the Philippines and the industry's prospects. This industry study is based on the priority and essential items outlined by JETRO, Manila.

22. Civic Education Training Seminar (CETS) for Secondary School Teachers

The CETS is a series of seminars aimed at upgrading the pedagogy and content of secondary school teaching of Civic Education in the Philippines. This is envisioned to be a 3-day summer certificate course for high school teachers and shall involve the strengthening of teaching skills and content through several modules. The CETS project's initial output shall be a teaching manual designed for the secondary school level. This project is made possible by a grant from the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the Unietd States of America.

23. A Study on the Beans and Peas Industry

This industry study will report on whether there are any beans in the Philippines which compete with those produced in Japan; whether there are any processed goods made from these beans; the possibility of "develop-and-import" schemes to Japan; and how consumption differs from Japan.

24. Tomato Processing Industry Expansion Project - Business Development Plan and Crop Diversification for Tobacco Farmers in Ilocos Province

The project involves the preparation of a business development plan to expand the tomato processing industry in the Ilocos Province with NFC as the anchor processing facility in order to provide better income opportunities to tomato farmers and the much needed alternative livelihood for tobacco farmers affected by the salt intrusion in their farms as well as the declining demand for tobacco.

25. Impact of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries on the Philippine Economy and Regional Economies: Policy Directions

The impact study presented the current and future internal and external issues affecting the electronics and semiconductor industries in the Philippines. It showed the degree of economic linkages and the downside economic and non-economic risks of the sector on the Philippine economy. Furthermore, the study estimated the economic and non-economic potentials of the industries in the national and regional economies, and proposed a policy stance that would support and promote the competitiveness of the sector.

26. Economic Impact of the Proposed Land Use to the Economy of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat

The study assessed the economic impact of converting 65 hectares of the 1,600-hectare land area of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat into a commercial mixed-used type of development. The analysis showed the net impact of the conversion on output, employment, taxes and household income of the given municipality.

27.  Achieving Universal Access: Developing A Philippines Business Model And Government Interventions Strategies For Viable Community Telecenters In Rural Areas (PAN ASIA ICT R&D Grants Program)

The project will provide substantial information, analysis and recommendation on the framework, strategy and policy to promote the achievement of universal access by providing basic communications and internet services in the rural areas. The project proposes to develop a framework, which includes a survey instrument and business model, for analyzing the components of a viable telecenter in the rural areas to be used by the government, operators and the community.

28.  Study on the Philippine-U.S. Security Issues between the U.S. and the Philippines, with Special Focus on New York Ports

CRC Foundation, Inc. was commissioned by the Atlas Economic Research Foundation for this project. The project involves a research study on the compliance of the Philippines to the international standards on port security.
