About the Center for Strategic Studies on Security and Trade Institute

The Center focuses its research and advocacy activities on trade and security issues. At present, the Atlas Economic Research Foundation (USA) and APEC Study Center (Australia) support the research studies of the Center.


Institute Director


George N. Manzano is an assistant professor and research director for International Economics in the School of Economics of the University of Asia and the Pacific. He was a Commissioner of the Philippines Tariff Commission, the government agency tasked with implementing the tariff and customs code and conducting the formal investigations in trade remedies. His research interests include free trade areas, safeguards and anti dumping issues, ASEAN, international trade (goods and services), and financial services. He is a member of the ASEAN Economic Forum Research Network and, in this context, has collaborated in the research on services trade for the ASEAN. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of New South Wales, Australia and his MS in Economics at the Center for Research and Communications. He holds an Engineering Degree (BSIE) from the University of the Philippines cum laude.
